I believe all matter to be conscious, but ChatGPT being conscious doesn’t mean it has thoughts, emotions, or a sense of self. The problem is people often associate consciousness with the aforementioned characteristics.
What we should be focusing on is whether or not ChatGPT can even have a subjective thought. A bit of research on how AI actually works and some critical thinking should lead you to the same conclusion all the experts have come to: it can’t.
