About @19:20 the conversation moves into the territory of the human ability to imagine another person's situation and their likely actions, what psychologists refer to as Theory of Mind. This is the thing I keep running into considering self-driving cars and other AI-like systems. We avoid a lot of accidents in our driving due to knowing the other person's state of mind. As an example: We know that the other person knows we are at the 4-way stop. We know that they know we got to the 4-way stop before they got there and we presume they know the rules and I can proceed. We can also notice that the are unaware of our presence at the 4-way stop and we become more cautious about proceeding. We can even further notice that they seem not so interested in following the 4-way stop rule. And, maybe we see their attention drawn to their left, my right and coming from my blind area due to bushes is a pedestrian that I could well have hit except for me knowing without thinking that there was *something* to my right. We do all of that and, in my limited knowledge and imagination, think this might be the biggest challenge in AI.
