The only way self-driving meaningfully changes the need for parking lots would be if, on top of being shared, it's meaningfully cheaper than taxis/uber/lyft. Simply being self-driving does not change anything substantial...if anything there's probably more people who distrust the robot driver than the human driver.
You indicate that it often is cheaper, but not always. And when it is cheaper, is it actually cheaper, or just being subsidized by investors? Waymo is still in the lose-money-to-gain-market-share part of Big Tech's business model, like Uber was 10 years ago. When it comes time to actually make money at this, will the final price point just be the same as taxis have always been?
