hmm, simple fact of the matter is: this is fiction (for those who didn’t bother to watch the video, Lazy Owl veers into 2030 and beyond, assuming the narratory position of an AI super-intelligence). In this video, the narrator’s professed opinion is over-estimating the “quality” of AI writing “ability”. It still sucks, even now. AGI is unlikely to happen. Before you have advanced general intelligence, you still need basic Actual Intelligence, which AI has completely failed to exhibit. It’s incapable of producing even one independant original thought. It has no idea it exists. It’s not sentient, and likely never will be. Sentience needs life in order to occur, a basic survival instinct. AI isn’t even aware that it’s “on”. Expecting AI to become sentient is like expecting a fork to become sentient. It’s a tool that we made. It didn’t will itself into existence, into evolution like the first single cell organism to split into two*. It’s a literal tool; a complex one that has the attribute to dupe morons into thinking it’s clever (such morons who will fire employees), but it’s still just a tool. Expecting AI to take over is like the early noughties fear that CGI would take over. People aren’t as interested in AI as one might think. It’s a nightmare trying to get AI to “understand” what you want, as an artist, and it’s just easier, more fulfilling and more fun to do it yourself. Of course the more moronic non-artists are impressed by the “art” that AI produces: they have nothing going on upstairs. There’s already a pushback against AI from a lot of consumers who value a human connection (something that will never go away, and the desire for which will only strengthen over time). There’s a very good quote that goes “why should I bother to read something that nobody bothered to write?”. I was expecting to have my point of view challenged by this video (I think it’s important to confront ones fears), but its psuedo-nonfiction content is nothing but ignorant, overtly cyncial, poorly researched and irresponsible fear-mongering. Some people are still quite scared of AI; it’s not a good idea to put out video titles / thumbnails like this as you never know the state of mind of the reader (a person on the brink of despair, fearing losing their job, might be pushed over the edge. Do you really want that on your conscience?). You need to exercise responsibilty in the media you release. This is fiction and the title & thumbnail should reflect that. *(there’s been a philosophical debate in the scientific community recently about the necessity of needing a brain when it comes to conciousness, think about plants for example. I cannot remember where I read it, but it lent credence to the idea that life uh, found a way [re. single cell organisms, the nature of want, evolution]).
