Engineers solve problems. Calculus and physics help a whole lot because they allow you to model the world (to some degree of accuracy). AI is just the newest level of abstraction (details are automatically filled in). We went from machine code to assembly language to high level language (BASIC) to Object Oriented Programming (C++or Python). Each level filled in more details. At this point AI isn't reliable. Humans still need to evaluate its worthiness. As you work at a higher and higher level your productivity has to increase, and your expertise goes down. You don't need to know what a double linked list is if you program in Python. Employers can hire less skilled labor at a lower cost. Solve problems with the tools available, as quickly and accurately as possible. You are an engineer.
