I'm all in with you on that and not just for art.
I think the main problem isn't AI itself but what tasks we collectively choose as humans to remove from people.
There's no denying that certain things would be better automated by machines that'd make most ppl's lives better but there're things that are special to humans and should be made by humans for humans (for the most part) like arts where the process is as important as the result.
Tracing is more efficient than drawing from your mind or using references but is that what people expect when they commission you ?
Sure AI can help in the process for certain unwanted, tedious, difficult and unmeaningful aspects/tasks but it shouldn't replace the bulk of the process by just mashing together a string of words and blurt out trillions of results in a relatively short timespan.
Also to the people throwing the "but tools advance/it's just a new tool" argument, I don't recall the last time Photoshop (which is often brought as example) drew a full scene/portrait in impeccable quality instead of its user by just mashing a bunch of erratic words together.
Using such arguments exposes the big disconnect and how flawed & limited their reasoning is.
Would these same ppl find it more fun sitting on a desk alone with 5 AI apps running in the bg instead of having coworkers of diff walks of life that they can drink a nice cup of coffee while discussing their next project ?
