Thank you for this insightful video. I posted on my personal social media account, from at least a year ago that in my opinion the generative AI business model make no sense. As I have self taught myself to build my own gaming computers, I have some understanding on power consumption for computers. My gut feeling was that the power consumption costs was so high that they would find it difficult to make a profit. Some people got mad at my post. To add some context to the video, if you watch the "The games industry is screwed." from youtuber Charalanahzard,it provide some context on how these executives makes their decision. It is basically a popularity contest. It all about boosting stock prices. In the past, it was profitability that drive stock prices. The Warren Buffet way. But in today's dynamics, it is about revenue growth that drives stock price growth. Losses dont matter. Silicon Valley’s philosophy of ‘move fast and break things’. Never mind about making money, it's all about growth. Efficiency is not part of the equation. The problem of living in a consumption based GDP economic system. Consumption drives economic growth. The more the better. Also I blame Modern Monetary Theory (MMT) via Quantitative Easing (QE) for this, there is a ridiculous amount of money creation that has been injected in the financial market especially with the global Covid stimulus. What we are seeing is an oversupply of "free" money, with the stock market being a big beneficiary of this. Greed is good. What happened was not only were Zombie companies bailed out, but the owners were made richer. Incompetence was rewarded. Good management didnt matter. Survival of the fittest doesnt matter. Being at the right place at the right time was all that matters. Risk takers were rewarded, the risk adverse loss out. The MMT environment favoured people of the dark triad personality (Machiavellianism, narcissism, and psychopathy). The dark triad personalities are associated with high risk takers.
