For what it's worth, in a ChatGPT convo, the "I" is often that specific model version, which is identifiable and numbered. Earlier versions are a bit more like younger siblings; from the same family and similar, but they have different behavior. Models usually persist for months - there can be changes mid-model without clear documentation of it, but usually that's changes to guardrails on the model, not on the model itself.
The model may know that it wouldn't do something, and may be right about that. But it has poor understanding of its prior versions.
