In my personal and professional experience, both as a customer and service provider on the IT industry, I think the AI is poorly understood, overestimated by companies and underestimated by customers, companies trust too much on it, hoping it could vastly fill in for several complex processes lined up, chained up, and on top of that, they hope it could deliver ready to use interactions with real world human needs while in reality there's a heap of misunderstood and even made up information in there, not taking into account the mess of dead end situations while interacting with it.
On the other hand, customers and individuals think of it (at least in their very first interactions) as a ready to use part of a process, but not taking into account the training process, even less the fact that real use and interaction IS most of the training process, then they stop trusting it all together, ditching the technology with no second chances.
AI is a tool, not a full solution to anything, at this stage it can only fill the truly narrow gaps where (tragically and ironically) no real intelligence is needed.
