The human race consistently chooses the Thelma and Louise option when we're confronted with an extinction-level threat. Nuclear war? Build more missiles! Global warming? Generate more energy by all means necessary! AI is going to kill us all? Don't the country or the company down the street get it first! We are profoundly and staggeringly stupid. We had a good run.
