i cancelled my Artstation subscription, not as a boycott, but so I could save cash to buy a new GPU! heres a few points, you say say 'artist' but what you really mean is a very narrow defination of artist which is an illustrator for the games industry. a quick look at artstation confirms how there are too many 'concept artists' to go around for the few jobs, with pretty much all of them all looking the same and not offering anything new. do you have any proof an AAA studio has used AI generated concept art in their development? probably not. I used for a long time gimp to make textures for my models, then I upgraded to Substance Designer and Painter, and now I use Stable Diffusion. its evolution. AI will mean smaller and smaller indie studios will be able to produce more work. if you really want we can go back to the 90s and use fax machines. The two big AAA titles I worked on the devs didnt even waste money on concept art, they had a big pdf they'd share of photos scrapped from google and they'd say 'hey man, make something like this, with this combined' and that was that, the rare times we had to produce complex scenes for the devs, they'd send us over to that Google Sketchup Warehouse or Turbosquid to look some free models for props for a render. all those Sketchup and Turbosquid artists went uncredited, and we dont care about that. among many of the suspect posts I seen some neckbeard deviantart crybabies on Reddit claiming their non existant career of selling prints is now doomed. Selling prints? the poor man at the Samsung printer factory is working his ass off making printers and not getting any credit for those prints! when I havent been doing 3d modelling, I've actually been working as an artist represented by a gallery. and that means contemporary art. and I can assure you contemporary art is wide field and there is a lots of room for people to work with AI and an audience who are receptive to new ideas. so please stop saying 'artists', you dont speak for all of us.
