Not an AI stan by any means but this brings up an interesting quirk of the morality of modern online artistry. Maybe I’m out of touch, but artists protesting ai because it steals artists’ work without permission by making art using the intellectual property of other artists without permission seems…odd? Like that first image was awesome and the animation was amazing but then immediately it was just unlicensed work using other people’s characters. Like I don’t think an artist should sell ai work, but how many of those artists protesting it make money selling artwork of other people’s creations without permission? This isn’t a pro-AI Art take, I hate the techbros as much as anyone, but a lot of online “artists” are just analog AI running on meat. Seriously. Scooping up the work of other artists and calling it originality. The state of the world is such that the very concept of originality is at stake and the people attacking AI for infringing on their ability to steal from other artists is sort of pathetic. Yeah, AI sucks and all, but so do hacks. And the loudest voices right now are hacky as shit. The AI vs Non-AI debate is silly through this lens, with both sides being as childish and unevolved. Depressing.
