Very good lecture and, as a homeschooling dad, I will be looking into using this with my child this very day. I am afraid the I don't share Sal's optimism as to the future with AI though. There are just too many temptations for the rich and powerful to exploit it to the full, both in democratic and authoritarian societies. Also, I think a point that many overlook, is the sheer slowness of the legislative process, particularly in democratic countries, compared to the speed of change and capabilities of AIs.
Currently, I can just see massive problems approaching very fast with societies ill-prepared to deal with the resultant social and political chaos. I would be interested if anyone can show any reason for optimist given this scenario?
