The problem is that it took a bifurcated economy that damaged small d democracy to even get here.
This is the kind of ambitious research that would have purely been the realm of government investment 30-40 years ago. Now the U.S. is between a rock and a hard place because they have no idea how to govern AI development and no willingness to nationalize that research and development either.
In the current economic and political regimes, nobody is coming to save us or stop the reckless development of Artificial Intelligence. The only solutions we have are corporate sabotage and espionage that leak the most advanced models, slim them down to work on less powerful hardware, and begin an anti-corporate, anti-capitalist AI revolution.
