It's important to realise that AI researchers who claim AI will become conscious are conveying their belief in an unproven mechanistic theory of mind.
The brain is a computer, basically. Consciousness is just pattern recognition.
If that's true then we can replicate it.
I personally don't believe the brain is a computer. Nor do I believe AI will ever be Conscious.
It's quite arrogant to believe it will be.
