Disabled artist coming from a family of disabled artists. I want to talk about my mother, who is legally blind as a result of a degenerative condition called keratoconus. For her, the world looks like a melting wax museum, but multiple copies of it layered on top of each other. When she looks at something, she'll often see 5 or more copies of that object layered and melding together. Additionally, every pinprick of light looks incredibly blown out to her. This is a woman who has never truly, clearly seen my face before, and relies on memory to know what my siblings and stepmother look like. Yet, she continues to make art. She paints digitally, she writes, she makes music, all without relying on AI. By claiming AI is good for disabled folks, it heavily implies that disabled folks are incapable of being creative, or being creative "correctly."
