The fact there will be new jobs continously is not a real solution to the overall problem the people are confronted with when it comes to automatisation of craft!
The thing is, in the current state working as a freelancer in art is already hyperexploitative. All the time you spend in learning the skills needed for the stuff to do your work is time NOONE will ever pay you back! Artists argue in excuse to that, that this learning process and time they spend to develope their skillset further is something they enjoy and do for themselves. But the thing is: what counts as valuable labour is not defined by the fact if it is enjoyable and therefore okay not to be paid for. Work does not have to be suffering to count as valuable work at all!
So when it comes to economic standpoint: not to dramatically exploit yourself in this industry would mean that you have to put the monetary value of the time you spend in learning on top of the price of the work you do. In any other case you devalue your labour and you are doing stuff more or less for free. That is in rational terms the math you would have to make. And if you do so you realize how incredible underpayed you already are as a freelancer already.
Craftsmanship in former times was structured about a time period in that you had to learn a limited amount of skill to do your craft and afterwards the value and price of your labour was able to pay you back the time investment you made in monetary value. Okay there were guilds and institutions that protected and gatekept all that labour, and that is something problematic for itself.
But this basic transformation process of time to monetary value is fundamentaly broken in society in that artist have to keep on learning a new skillset (often something they do not even like and enjoy) every half a year (or soon faster), more or less from scratch to keep up with the latest industry standard of production.
And for shure in 99,9999% of all cases noone would buy your stuff if you would indeed pay yourself according to human rights and put the time investment for that learning on top of your salary. That would render your work entirely useless when it comes to competition. So I guess artists are doing that stuff for free now continously. To be honest, I am really fascinated by the fact that people are still keeping up doing that work. Just out of fear to do something else that could be more suffering.
We talk about artists as some people that seam to tend to mental health issues and sensitivity. The fact is: everyone would in a situation like that. People in artistic labour industrie are just that much used to the situation that they do not realize the situation they are in entirely, or simply ignore it to stay mentaly stable. So when AI automatisation flushes that entire industry down the drain, so be it. The way it works at the moment is incredible toxic for the people that are working in it!
This is all is not only about AI in general. And a luddite approach leads to nothing because it does not adress the real problem underneath. AI is just an extrapolation and amplifies the entire overall problem!
The entire economical social contract in its current state is internaly broken for that type of labour, because it simply does not match with the current state of technological progress. That is simply not how we as society can structure artistic labour in future and at the same time prevail decent humanity.
