A key thing here with these cyclist deaths. Tesla is not selling a self-driving car. A human was in the driver's seat when it killed the motorcyclist. The driver was not paying attention. They are 100% accountable for the collision.
Auto-pilots are responsible for a significant number of aircraft collisions too. So don't get confused by a label. Airlines still put pilots in aircraft. The auto-pilot helps to reduce pilot workloat is it not there to eliminate the need for the pilot. They still scan the sky ahead.
