AI itself can be used for good. Smart Homes and "avatar robots" that can work by proxy can help physically disabled but mentally able people gain more independence in their lives.
However, we're facing powerful rich individuals who see earning money as a game that they have the right to play regardless of the consequences to others, many of whom after benefitting from tax cuts to the rich by countries who want to attract funding to their country. Taxing the rich more like what Gary the economist points out helps, but the rich aren't going to sit around and lose what to them are "rightfully theirs".
I have been pushing for years for a tax to be implemented on the development and use of AI that, depending on industry, is at least 20% more than what a company would pay if they use AI, and with that tax, funnel into healthcare, education, public security etc. It's not perfect and has its pros and cons but anyway
Whether AI will turn on humans will depend on 2 factors imo: what it perceives its directives to be, and how determined that AI is to execute said directives.
