Raw LLM Responses

I'm not an artist, at least not the visual kind (I don't draw, paint or even play an instrument), but I'm very passionate about cooking and about Dungeons and Dragons (I'm a DM, and I'm getting ready to run a homebrew campaign), so I use these two as examples when I think about "AI" "art". If you have a meal made by someone skilled, let's say your grandma or Gordon Ramsey, and the same exact meal come out of a vending machine - is it really the same meal? Does it really carry the same significance as a nice homecooked meal or as a meal that has been perfected by a chef and his team? For DnD, I can use an IRL example, no need for hypotheticals. One of my players came over so we can create her character. Everything went well until we got to backstory. She's going to play a Wood Elf Beast Master Ranger, so I see her look up at her phone, and I ask "Please don't tell me you're gonna use ChatGPT". She said yes, she got her prompt, read it out to me, it was fine, nothing special that she couldn't come up with herself. In the end, we essentially scrapped everything that ChatGPT gave her, and wrote a story that she really really liked (if you're curious, she's from a city in the Cormanthor forest, where the veil between the Feywild and Toril is thin. It's a trading hub between the planes, and she used to be a guide for travelers passing through. We also had her grandma bea dryad who in her old age fused with her tree, and her grandpa is a treant). Honestly, I was mildly frustrated when she wanted to use the stupid thing. I came up with several cool plot ideas depending on their characters (which, yes, were heavily inspired with games I've played), and seeing her just deciding to let some dumb bot do all that thinking work was just kinda sad to me. Still, I'm glad we worked it out in the end and wrote her a fun backstory. "AI" "art" IMO is inhuman, and removes the whole point of art. If we're to use machine learning for stuff, it should be for repetitive work, something that will free up time for us humans to spend more time together, tell our stories, make art, and enjoy life, not the opposite.
