The problem with this hypothesis is that currently almost all of the AI spending is self-feeding. It doesn't generate a profit. The movies don't make money. The bad social media content doesn't make money. The replacement of a few low level workers doesn't make money. They spend far too much money feeding the AI to make any money back from it.
