Many chinese automakers are putting much cheaper lidar than waymo does, and doing so in a very sleek manner integrated in the roof. Price of the vehicles suggest much less than $10k for lidar. So, Tesla would do better by shifting to Chinese tech, which actually has a big lead in robotaxi rides. That would break the promise to past customers that they could one day make robotaxi revenue, but it gets rid of the dead end strategy, in a world where lidar is getting cheaper.
