His long poem-like post seemed more like a cry for attention from someone who didn’t do well in art classes and is especially bitter about it. I don’t know of any self-respecting artist, someone who’s done the work or even tries their best but isn’t quite at the level they want to be, deride and put-down a whole community of hard-working people. It screams insecurity and approval seeking. As an appreciator of art/animation/creatives, and like most humans, a user of tools….AI is just that, a tool, like a phone, hammer, fork, etc. I feel like it can never truly replace artists as we saw and most haters saw, it lacks refinement in movements and knowledge of true human movements and nuances. That’s what makes animators such hard, under-appreciated powerhouses. They aren’t the character-design teams, the Directer of Photography (although some can come from animation), their whole job as animators is TO AVOID UNCANNY VALLEY AND MAKE CHARACTERS HUMAN! So hard-working, detail-oriented, seasoned animators know their stuff. Good examples are Mitchells Vs The Machines, where they had both humans and robots animated. The humans move, react like humans while the robots realistically moved like robots. Shocking I know. AI can’t and won’t be able to completely eradicate human jobs as they operate based on human knowledge, we don’t know everything and we don’t know really how to teach what little we do know. AI can bridge the gaps but like a tool, just/only that. It can copy, it can mimic but by itself, it can’t make anything human-like. It can’t operate beyond our knowledge, as it knows only what we feed it and complies it together. If we asked it to make a language or guess the sounds/speech of an ancient language that barely has any traces left….like us, it would only be able to connect the dots so far based on what exists currently. Find bits of sounds from languages we know of, current or younger, like we would. Like how historians pieced together possible sound of ancient Egyptian. It can operate like us but can never replace us, or to a competent extent at least. Definitely not the extent the companies and such want to save money by. Another last example is the stark difference in skills of amateur tattoo artists vs seasoned/well trained tattooists. If someone is piecing together AI art prompts and they come up with that “smiling boy and girl laughing while walking” piece, think it’s the best thing ever. They are not a trained/experienced artist. It’s good. But…..like most people, we recognize as humans what seems human and what seems uncanny valley. That’s our survival instinct….and why so many are put off by The Polar Express. To trained artists/animators/trained eyes, you know what exactly about that video piece is off. Another reason why feedback is SO important in the creative communities. Anyone looking to improve, to get better at their stuff, artists or not, gains from feedback. His reaction seems to me like defensive, insecure behavior, not habits/behaviors of someone looking to improve their stuff like a true creative mind.
