No one's life goal is to work in a call center.
If menial work is automated and everyone's basic needs are guaranteed (that may be UBI or a different solution), people can start focusing on their passions.
Your job doesn't need to define you. Maybe you really enjoy writing, but only 100 people like your books.
In the current world, that would never be able to make you a living. But inspiring/entertaining 100 people is nothing to scoff at.
This could be said about many things that are important but not economically viable.
