I have not enjoyed seeing those videos pop up on my feed, I never really understood what they were trying to say, whether they were dissing on AI or trying to get people to sympathize with it. Either way, the made up slurs, especially one's based in real slurs, our entirely unnecessary and gross to hear. Even if their intended targets aren't self aware and can't actually be insulted, it still has impacts on real people who have had to deal with all sorts of slurs in real life. Near the end of the video, something you were talking about really bothered me and also came across as kind of fucked up. I don't understand why we should care about whether something's human or not. If something develops consciousness and sapience, it deserves to be treated with dignity and its civil rights should be respected regardless of whether it is human. Having the criteria of human be the limiter is arbitrary and feels like the same kind of bigotry that people used when trying to claim that different races were subspecies and therefore some did not deserve respect. Yes, every race is undeniably actually human, but whether different races has turned out to be subspecies or the same species shouldn't matter, they are still fully cognizant people who deserve as much respect as anyone else either way. Just like no group of humans should have to fight for our rights (even though that's how it's played out throughout history), truly sapient AI should also not have to fight to have its personhood recognized. That being said, modern AI is nowhere near that point yet. It doesn't have consciousness, it's simply mindless software. If it does get to that point, I'll gladly support its personhood. But as of now, we live in a social structure and economic system where relying too heavily on AI and replacing human endeavors with mindless robots is not feasible, nor does AI need any sorts of rights yet as a non sapient entity. As nice as it would be to set software and machines up to automate all the jobs that humans don't want to do, we don't have the social safety nets in this capitalist hellscape to handle the influx of people losing their jobs with no way to support themselves because their profession has been made obsolete. Once we don't have capitalism looming over our shoulders, go wild with non-sapient AI, until then, it's doing more harm than good and we can't handle it yet. Also fuck "vibe coders", they're just people who mess up code bases because they don't understand what they're copying and pasting from chatbots and the rest of us have to clean up after them, wasting time and resources just so that they can feel more competent than they are. Go learn how to actually code.
