Well, I think the way it's going to work might be simple, but also very weird. I think that labor will become a virtualized or simulated thing rather than a real thing. Sort of like how we went from money being based on gold, to being based on something more abstract. Governments and corporations both have an incentive to create jobs, regardless of whether those jobs do anything productive, and it's actually related to PR. Think about things like DEI or politicians announcing that they've "added jobs" to the economy. The jobs will likely be totally unneeded, but they will be created to generate good PR for the company and to get government incentives that come with job creation. Essentially, it may become a thing where merit goes out the window. Think about it, they can employ historically disadvantaged groups to show what good corporate citizens they are, while AI does all the real work, and they can claim to be creating jobs when there are no longer any real jobs. Like, another awkward thing is that bosses do want some people to boss around, to play games to test people's loyalty, to make people prove their worth, regardless of whether it has any real productive value or not. It will literally become about "do my will, not yours, for 8 hours a day, because I will get bored otherwise," and every job will be about feeding the ego of the boss and jumping through totally arbitrary hoops for 8 hours a day, rather than doing something that has actual value. All while doing a job that was created solely to give the company government incentives and good PR. In fact, the job itself may come to be more of a status symbol of being associated with a "good company" rather than something that describes any productive activity. You'll want to be associated with a company because you want their branding on your resume, and they'll want to hire you because your race or gender may be an asset that makes them look good to the government, or maybe they want to hire graduates from a particular school because it's their alma mater, or something like that. Basically, nepotism will become rife, merit won't matter anymore, the jobs will be fake and created entirely for political and advertising reasons, and it really will be all about who you know and what group you represent rather than what you know, literally. There might be various trainings, meetings you get called into, random things you are expected to do to prove your skills and keep the illusion of merit alive, but the job will produce nothing of value and you'll just be a puppet on a string worrying all the time about maintaining good relationships with your co-workers and bosses like it's high school, and you have to remain one of the "cool kids" to not lose your job, and not embarrass the company or anything.
