This whole thing with the AI stuff has honestly affected me a lot. As someone who aspires to be an artist myself, this situation has just been so discouraging to keep learning and making art. I am in no means a great artist and I know my work won't really get used as data for these AI, but I've been seeing how much this has also affected artists who have had their works used without their consent. It's even more frustrating knowing that there is a possible solution to this that won't have to erase AI as a whole and also not put artists at risk. I think the main thing these AI bros just fail to understand is that a lot, if not most, of artists that are against AI generated art isn't asking for the whole thing to be removed. AI generation is definitely something interesting and something that could be useful to artists themselves but the way it works right now is just disgusting and it just shouldn't be open for commercial use at all with how it is as of this moment. It's unethical. It's harmful. Use copyright free stuff as data. Ask artists for consent/their permission. Give compensation to artists whose art is being used. Give credits. It isn't that hard to ask. If they say no, then don't use their art. End of discussion. Definitely easier said than done to implement but it's the way it has to be if they really love the artists and their works so much that they want to train their AI and create models with it.
