And OF COURSE, the issue of the energy that will be required to run all this fabulous tech is never even mentioned. Not once. More significantly and immediately than any of the problems outlined here, we have an energy problem. We are living, in every way imaginable, in complete blindness to the real costs of the energy that is required to create, as well as run, maintain, and replace, ALL of our technology, much less all of our economy's so-called "productivity." AI is already in the process of *accelerating* (not just increasing) our demand for energy... That demand itself is generated by our economic structures and economic philosophy. (Contrary to what's routinely and silently implied by our media, that demand is not generated as a result of universal law. We are choosing to live in ways that create it, and then convincing one another there is no other option.) Capitalism in its current form demands growth to continue, and that means growth in population, and more people making demands for more technology... demanding more energy to run the technology. Technological advances like AI only accelerate this process, demanding more and more from a planet that is already overburdened. 99.99% have no clue as to the real damage this accelerating demand has already cost us and the biosphere, and is going to cost increasingly now with AI. We already have seriously overshot the planet's carrying capacity for our species. That overshoot is the real reason why the quality of our soils have been severely depleted, the purity of our waters and air severely compromised, and countless species are going extinct at an unimaginable rate. The only response I ever hear to this dilemma is "AI will fix it." People, that is an expression of pure, blind faith. A faith for which there is zero evidence, and no history to point to. It is an assumption based on nothing. It's like saying "God will fix it" when it is *we* who are the creators of the problem. It is an expression of our new religion: the technology religion. It is an unfounded faith in the "devil" that is, quite literally, a part of the source of the problem it is now expected to resolve. It's like putting the investment banks in charge of resolving the 2008 investment & speculation crisis. (It wasn't a "housing" crisis, btw -- another example of how we use language voluntarily deceive ourselves.) We all saw what happened with that. The victims were robbed to create a short term fix rewarding the perpetrators, and then it was back to business as usual. Open your eyes, people, and see the world as it truly is. You think you see, but you are wearing blinders, designed specifically *for you* by a media that is in truth paid for and owned by those who are intent on profiting from your blindness.
