AI on the Internet has four dangerous shortcomings. Remember the phrase "it's the data, stupid". This is the data that AI is going to mine and it's a very poor database. 1. The Internet has a huge volume of data starting in about 1990. Data before 1990 is largely not there, because there's little of it, but it's important to set context. So it's 1 wise person and 200 idiots giving advice. 2. There's very little positive data and a whole lot of complaining. We're asking pessimists what is the good news. We need to look at what we can do and not at what we don't like. 3. Extreme, marginal groups shout loudest. There is no balance to data on the Internet and so you have had trial AI becoming racist, bigoted, etc., because that's what it sees. 4. Most people don't say anything on the Internet so a huge chunk of society and most likely majority views are ignored. It's a very poor form of democracy.
