Lemme start by first saying....As an artist who had their art stolen before and sold by the thief as if it were their own and had to go to court for it all....mma always be on the side of All Artists whoput in the time and work to make their art. 100,000% But on the side of Devils Advocate.... I personally dont mind AI Art or AI Artists. I think AI Art thats made Organically without stealing other artists works AND/OR Prompted AI Art thats made by inputting Your Own artwork or photos is Fine. I mean Ive drawn art all my life..... Literally since I was 3 I have been drawing. I went to an art school and had my parents pretty much waste $24,000.00 for one of the worlds most expensive Hobbies cause I never went into Art as a Career. It was always my stress relief so I never wanted to make it into too much of a JOB. Cause then what I used to relive stress would have become a source of it. Course that was just to give some background into who I am as an artist since now all that doesnt matter as currently my art is Crap because of a stair accident that could have apparently killed me but instead left me with a fractured right rotator cup, two fractured vertebrae, a fractured hip, and a bone shard/spur thats healed wrong in my spine thats got a bunch of scar tissue with it thats putting pressure on my spinal chord so my right hand and leg get shakey randomly....Hashtag would do again cause I was saving my child but anyway..... Since Im right handed Predominantly.....I cant draw like I used to....... And It is..................... Very Hard................ Seeing how bad my art has become compared to what it was because I cant hold a pencil or brush like I used to................... I have work Ive still not finished because I dont want to ruin what I started just cause I cant even draw a line right anymore......... Cause for me...... Being a Perfectionist..................... I cant accept my art being Less than what I see as Perfect.......... And Other people saying its still Good isnt helpful and means nothing when I can see all the mistakes Ive made in it..... And so..... I thought art was lost to me forever........ Then my friend told me about this AI App called Wombo Dream AI Generator....Its still on the App store if you wanna see it I actually like it because it doesnt allow alot of stuff and blocks stuff from being added like NSFW Stuff and Specific Kinda Artists Works; Anyway it lets me take pics of my own Crappy Art and turn it into something Beautiful. It made making art FUN Again because I could take My Garbage Art, put in a Poetic Prompt cause I love poetry, and then select the style I wanted and BAM it created.....Often times.....Hilariously Stupid versions of my art but I found them beautiful. And sometimes it made amazing art that I wish I could still make. And sometimes it made stuff that I found questionable.....Like Highly Questionable. I only wish that more people used AI in the same purely innocent way I and my friends do instead of being selfish and greedy with it. I use it to just make fun character pics for my Dungeons and Dragons Character sheets or Text Based RPs Character Wiki Sheets that I then just share with Friends. Or we come up with insane ideas and prompts and see what the AI will make of our Madness. Sometimes we completely break the thing and we find that truly titillating. But what I dont do is post them and claim I made them ad try to sell them. I make it clear they are AI and just like I did here I share the AI Generator I used so if any artists see anything they think is a copy of their work they can always message the company; And I think using it in that kinda innocent For Fun way is perfectly fine. Furthermire I never sell them or try to make a profit just cause its kind of a Code of Honor as an Artist thing for me. Like to ME an AI Piece just isnt Worth the same as REAL Art. I own many Anime Fan Art Sketches and have a Huge BEAUTIFUL Painting of Madara Uchiha that a friend bought me at an Art Auction that I will cherish FOREVER....There is something so much MORE about having a piece of REAL Hand Made art versus just an AI Generated Art Print. And its not just the scent of the paper and the pencil/ink or the scent of the canvas wood and the acrylic/oil paint as overtime it changes..... Its not just the Vibrancy and textile feel of the art in your hand and knowing that THIS was something a fellow artist put Love and Time into..... Its beyond that. True Art is a Piece of a Soul a Part of the Human Experience and while I do find MANY Actual AI Artists works to be Beautiful and worth a Profit when they solely use AI and Calculations and All that Mathematical Stuff that goes into making Actual AI Art Piece....Look it up....Actual AI Art is WILD and looks like NOTHING a Human would make and it is BEAUTIFUL in that sheer complete INHUMAN Quality of it!!!! AI Generated Art.....That Prompt Stuff You Can Find On The App Stores Like My Dear Old Wombo Dream.....Its all just a Watered Down Copy of BOTH those far greater Art Styles. And thats not to say its Bad....I dont see it as Bad or Good.....Isee it as it was only Meant to be a TOOL. A Tool you could use to have Fun with. But People being greedy and Lazy and Selfish have turned in to somethings thats now used to make a Profit at ANY Cost. And Honestly I feel that AI Should have just been left in the realm of FOR FUN. Thats how it Started. It was just a little thing you used to Have Fun, make stupid images and goofy pics with messed up faces and hands that you laugh at with your friends and joke about how Aliens/Robots in the future will be confused because humans only have between one and ten fingers normally but theres so much "Art" out there with them having 20 or more!! Now Corporations have turned it into Propaganda and Advertising and Money making and that Of Course leads to people Stealing REAL Art to pass the AI art off as being The Same. You cant even go onto some art selling places online now without finding some AI Art thrown in there which I as an Artist; disabled now though I may be, I find That truly insulting just because I know theres many artists like myself who even when I did make art I barely sold any of it and what little I did sell; usually to school mates or work associates, it was often so cheap and only was sold to cover the cost for supplies in making the art. So to see an AI Generated art PRINT selling for HUNDREDS of Dollars is Insulting. AI Generated Art has a Place yes. The REAL AI Art....That Amalgamation Of Mathematical Insanity That Ourely Shows That The Mind Of A Computer Is A Hellscape The Likes Of Which I NEVER Want To Be Privy To....Is TRUE AI ART....And That I Think 100% Deserves To Sell Its Prints And Use THAT As Corporate Art in Backgrounds and Such. But AI Generated Art thats just made from Prompts and stuff....Just use it as it was originally made as a Joke App or a Fun Editing photos tool to make your friends look silly. It doesnt belong in art galleries, shops and on any kind of news site. I dont think AI Generated Art should be erased. But I think the Art community should start heavily demanding compensations for artworks that have been stolen and used for AI. Maybe if a massive class action law suit came up against the most egregious AI Companies the others will start to reprogram their AI to start Generating art without needing to steal others art. Like Wombo Dream the app I use actually removed a bunch of their art styles I think because they didnt want to have a lawsuit so they removed styles that werent deemed open to the public. Which I totally get and applaud them for because it shows they Listened to Artists whos style was being used. Now people are complaining they dont like the app anymore and all that but I say Good Job. If more of these AI Generating Art apps took such steps to show just a Little Respect to the Art Community I dont think there would be so much animosity and discordance between the two sides. Well.....I can only hope people find a Middle Ground. AI has great uses as a tool especially in my personal experience dealing with disabilities taking away my ability to make art as I once did. AI gave it back albeit in a different way, but for that I am grateful for the technology. I just wish there werent so many shady people who use it to steal rather than just using it as a tool to better/enhance their own art.
