I'm a trial lawyer and I use ChatGPT as much as I possibly can. You have to know how to use it. First, I used it for relatively harmless stuff like drafting blog posts. Next, I use it to help with writer's block. If I have a draft, have done some research, and just can't quite get things going, I run it through ChatGPT to do a first draft of a couple sections (not a full brief). I find that writer's block is at its worst when you're basically stuck in editing mode. The ChatGPT draft is something I have to edit, correct, provide appropriate tone to. At some point, my brain transitions out of the editor mode and into a better writing mode. Likewise, when it comes to discovery, I use it to create basic discovery drafts where I'm stuck on something and I can't seem to get it right. Basically, I use it as a tool for creativity and thinking outside the box. But that's the limit. Every code, regulation, statute, and case must be cite-checked.
