its intended purpose is like speed limiters or cruise control
it is a driving AID not a replacement
you are supposed to be aware of what the car is doing, you are supposed to be focusing on which lane to be in still
using self-driving is supposed to take some focus off actively driving the car so you can be more alert and focused on hazards and your surroundings
like the hazard of being in a turn only lane for straight ahead, if you dont have to focus on staying in the lane then you can focus on the road markings and road signs and prepare for later in your journey rather than focusing on where you are in your journey
