i have only used ai image generation back when it was terrible as an art reference, but not in an accurate reference but concept, i have sort of mid zone of the aphantasia spectrum (ability to visualize something in your mind) i sort of see like old school holograms in 90's shows but with colour, so ai helps put something to paper that I'm visualizing that isn't natural, and isn't going to direct copy someone's work to learn from, but have a reference to make my own piece. now these are still for learning, but it takes down my reference time to creating something more my own in draft form immensely. it takes 3 to 5 references copied by eye to grasp the concepts to go off on my own, and those can each take me hours at a time (something I'm currently working on). now for something i actually want to learn, properly, real references, other artists references, previous works by myself, hours upon hours, hell yeah I'm going to do that, but quick concept creation, and concept is key here, something abstract and an idea, just needing something on paper to make it a little more solid, ai is bit more helpful, cause someone's final work just overwhelms, and has too much of their personality, and honestly ai now is too well done to use this kind of concept creation, and i do want to learn how to digitally photoshop to collage ideas together. the other use of ai i do use, is as a brain assistant, with audhd, i find it hard to start or get through the countless ideas and put concepts to paper, so making like mass checklists, is immensely helpful (note has sent me spiraling and crying do this, but it got started and almost done, which is better than nothing). like there are some helpful uses of ai, but how ai is used currently is just lazy for not even a good convenience reason.
