I understand why that distinction feels important to you, but I think it rests on a misunderstanding of what AI-assisted writing actually looks like in practice. AI-assisted writing is already a recognized workflow across publishing, journalism, and media. It doesn’t mean “the machine wrote the book.” It means the human author remains responsible for the ideas, structure, voice, revisions, and final decisions, while using tools to reduce friction in drafting, outlining, or problem-solving. Editors, beta readers, spellcheckers, dictation, outlining software, and research assistants all work the same way: they assist, they don’t author. In my process, I generate the ideas, set the themes, decide the structure, make the narrative choices, and revise the work. The tool helps me explore variations, clarify arguments, and iterate faster, but I decide what stays, what goes, and what the finished book actually is. I own the intent, the judgment, and the responsibility for the final result. I genuinely love writing. I love the creation process. I love taking an idea and converting it into a book that ships and pays rent. I know you disagree with me, but I’m the counterfactual to the claim you’re making. I love writing.
