Those AI models were invented by people that do not know a lot about Art. As usual if you do not know a lot about a profession, you believe "How hard can it be". That is, in my opinion, why their original aim was to replace artists with the technology. So they don't have to learn how to draw, but still can produce images they want to consume. Then they say "Look we are better then all you artists. You are kinda dumb that you are insisting on doing it the old way." Slowly they realize that it is not that easy. The unfortunate thing is, that those people set the initial path for AI products to be aimed at things it can't do well. It could be aimed at other things that it actually can do very well (like everything that has to do with searching). Maybe we get there eventually when the hype dies down a bit.
