This notion that "the government" "will have to" pay everyone some kind of UBI is a pipe dream. How? Which government? Ours? People keep fantisizing all these scenarios where "AI" will be taxed enough to pay for all of this. OK, when does that start? What's the actual plan? Are the AI companies on board with this? Because in all my life I have NEVER seen any examples of ANY company or CEO or shareholders who will agree to pay MORE taxes so people can sit around and do nothing. Sorry, but it's a pipe dream. It may happen somewhere, but that's not how we roll in the United States. In the U.S. people would rather die themselves than to see someone else sit around getting free government money. Yes, "AI" will create some new jobs. But the people who get displaced are rarely the same people who benefit from these new economies. What usually happens (autoworkers, coal miners) is that they get left behind. Sure, gig economy. But are 100M people going to be able to survive like this? Of course not. I wish I could be as optimistic, but there are a lot of holes in these "It's going to create all this abundance and we'll work less, get paid more and have all this time to persue our passions" theories. It sounds like what you tell people to keep them calm, to give them hope, so that they don't panic.
