By doing so, they'd be subjecting themselves to countless ads and providing indirect compensation to the publisher.
AI scraping gets around all of that. A massive company gets tons of value basically for free, and has the ability to regurgitate the copyrighted contents on a whim, for free, without compensation to the original publisher.
