Is there a way we can take these companies to court as a collective of artists? Because now that they have the technology, they could start over with copyright free images along with those who do opt in. I've thought it would be a good too for MYSELF to train an AI on my OWN art to speed up my own creation. This would eventually allow me to lower prices on my art so it's more readily, easily, and cheaply available to the public. But it's not very fair that someone can take the soul of what I' am or others are creating and just completely mimic that without getting anything out of it. It's like clip art. If some artist wants to sell their art as clipart, good for them. But it's illegal for just anyone to use whatever art they want as such. The opt in should come with an agreed compensation for whenever someone uses your name.
