I'm pretty sure the Ai bros go hand in hand with the people who say "chill, it's just a fictional character" whenever people show any sort of attachments or opinions about a character/story. Both lack a fundamental understanding that art has ties to reality. Fictional stories mirror the stories of real people. Fictional characters reflect emotions and believes of real people. Because the artist PUT THEM THERE.
Art is a form of communication.
A picture can say more than a thousand words, when the creator is trying to TELL you something. Without an artist, there's nothing being told.
People get upset when you insult their favorite character/story, not because they irrationally think the character is "a real person", but because the VALUES these characters portray ARE real. Because REAL PEOPLE share these values. When you insult a fictional character you're insulting the values, emotions and experiences they represent. That's why people get upset.
To deny the underlying reality of art, the true emotions of artist and audience, is truly an insult... to life itself, one might say.
