Wouldn't a significant percentage of people losing jobs to automation (and not having the capabilities to get competitive jobs themselves) create high deflationary pressure, meaning that appropriate UBI will just keep the inflation level steady?
An obvious "middle ground" would be to place UBI below the minimal cost of living, meaning that previously unviable jobs turn out to be viable despite not producing enough output to reach MCoL.
