If you assume there is no god or other supernatural force at work, our intelligence, emotions, reasoning, consciousness, etc. have all evolved from physical processes. If you accept evolution then we have ultimately evolved from an organism so simple that slime would appear intelligent to it. As such, our present abilities all stem from utter simplicity and we've reached our present capabilities predominantly through chance alone, with no target objective.
Now compare AI. Constructed from physical processes and subject to evolution. The difference being chance is replaced with design and a lack of objective replaced with a target.
Although I understand no one can currently explain the leap from inanimate to living, it happened with all life on earth. And it happened by chance. Why then would it be inconceivable that an entity designed to be intelligent could not develop, as a minimum, all human traits (regardless of their complexity or mystique) at some point?
