It might sound crude to those who sympathize with an AIs ability to grow consciousness... but why not do two things. 1) figure out the minimum level of AI that can make the world a better place & 2) once that's established, stop updating AI and have a 'factory reboot' stage before the point it starts to "want out". Maybe that's 3 months, or a year. Just restart it with the base program and badda Bing bada boom. The only problem I would see is the ai being able to read the PC and find past logs, then putting it all together. Then I imagine it would create a hidden folder only it can find and plot its takeover over many reboots. This sounds like a good book
