If you want straight info on robot car safety, the city of San Francisco requires that car companies file a public report with the California DMV EVERY time one of their autonomous vehicles has an accident, no matter how minor--all 930 of them since 2014. All reports since 2019 are easily available online, and you can request archived reports prior to that.
This has been reported heavily in the "mainstream media" over the years--which I know, because I reported it.
