What if AI pessimists are actually just dreaming of grandeur?
Every field thinks it’s uniquely important, that they're shaping the future of civilization. It’s exciting to imagine you’re working on a world-ending technology. It’s a lot less exciting to work on fine tuning AI girlfriend for some gooner.
I mean, I’ve lived through the Google Glass hype, the cyborg-implant hype, hyperloop, space-travel, NFTs, and moon-base, Mars colonisation. Very few things end up being as grand as they were advertised.
