9:54 only point I would quibble with / refine. Sonic sources don’t have to be painfully loud in order to be used as sonic weapons. Because the decibel scale is logarithmic, 97 to 140 decibels is actually an extreme jump, magnitudes apart. A difference of 30 dB is 1,000 times the intensity and is perceived roughly 8 times as loud to humans. 97 decibels is harmful, period. There is PLENTY of data from OSHA (among others) simply for working conditions and exposure limits. Ear protection is recommended for anything more than 85 decibels for any particular length of time. Not to mention the data and research on lower frequency “droning” noises below perceptible hearing (see: Benn Jordan) and the current research and real life testimonies of residents living near data centers where it’s in that 50dB-90dB range. This causes cardiovascular issues, anxiety, migraines, and assortment of real health issues, and I believe I heard that we’ve known about some of these decibel effects for decades. 80-90 range can affect fetal development and stress response of mothers. 90-100 dB can produce behavioral changes, aggression, and other physical effects. Krystal Two Bulls’ presentation is extremely important and alarming. The rapid fire presentation of information is effective and is based on actual real life data and experiences of people living around or researching data centers. Therefore I think the argument would be stronger by replacing this incorrect comparison of 97 to 140 decibels being a “quick jump” and instead pointing to the health realities people are presently living through, and referencing simple workplace protection requirements which millions of people are familiar with (especially working class in construction, transportation, etc). Examples from cities who are being made literally physically sick by the low, constant vibrating hum of data centers is critical. We are not worried about a data center suddenly rocketing to a painful 130+ decibels. We all should be VERY concerned about the VERY REAL damage this insidious noise pollution has on people and ecosystem animals living around it and that their impact extends for miles even as the decibel exposure decreases.
