Globally...i dont think so. People outside US are not very keen of idea sharing roads with uncontrolled cars. In Europe, it comes with way more difficulties to drive the cars trough streets, as everything constantly changes. People are allowed to cross the street at any time and driver has to be on constant watch...not just the road, but walkways as well. Tesla's super-duper "AI" will never work well enough to be approved in EU and Weymo will have to try hard to be at least considered in some cities. None of them will be able to hide behind corporate secrets like in US, when it comes to statistics.
Yea they might have luck in some countries outside EU, but i dont think its realistic for EU to approve self-driving cars any time soon, if ever.
Maybe if you took those billions and invested them into infrastructure and public transport, you would save way more lives and environment instead of multiplying problem....dont you think?
