If a company can produce more widgets at a lower cost with automation, then you shouldn't try to make them use people at a higher cost and lower production. People have to adapt just as we did when automobiles replaced horses for transportation. Many blacksmiths, saddle manufacturers, and horse-drawn carriage companies went bust. When commercial air travel became affordable, it largely replaced ocean liners, rigid airships, and to some extent railroads (still great for hauling supplies and equipment). Adapt, overcome, survive, and thrive.
