Listen, I 100% agree that this is tragic. However, driverless cars are more safe than almost ANY other driver on the road. The fact that hitting a cat made national news just shows how rare an accident is. Imagine how many people hit animals and other people on the road every day. Obviously, there is still way more normal cars on the road than driverless cars, so more accidents are bound to happen, but SERIOUSLY. The cat was UNDER the car. Was the Waymo just magically supposed to know it was there? I bet most of the people reading this don’t look under their car every single time they drive. Anyway, my point is, we should not get rid of driverless cars over one accident. If we had all driverless cars on the road, they could all communicate with each other and we could travel faster and less dangerously all the time. So, while the technology needs some work right now, it will pay off, and they are STILL probably safer than a human.
