Condolences to the families, this was a terrible accident.
The driver acknowledged he knew the difference between Autopilot (i.e. cruise control) and Full Self Driving (supervised autonomous driving) and still went like he is invincible with his freeway cruise control.
The ruling of the judge is what a company gets, that keeps an idiot at the top who constantly gets them into hot legal waters. Well deserved to get partial blame here towards Tesla. Fool around with bs marketing, find out about the consequences.
I think this accident was full on the driver. More or less every other car with similar cruise control and collision avoidance the same event would have happened. Static objects are a non trivial problem for the standard collision avoidance systems. However, other manufacturers spend money into lawyers to make their claims more bullet proof. Elon just tweets.
