AI artists cannot be artist because merely by creating AI art and thinking it to be art, they reveal just how much they misunderstand what art even is. Since they are soulless themselves, they cannot understand the human soul and are therefore incapable of creating art that will nourish the soul,which is the only art that even counts. Will any AI art ever instill respect or admiration, let alone awe and wonder? The reason people are drawn to art is not because they think it should be easy for everyone but because it is difficult. This is similar to sports. We are watching incredible athletes achieving almost superhuman-like performances and as a result feel like all of humankind gets elevated. The notion of what is possible is being raised. Therefore I have never heard anybody calling for the democratisation of the Olympics. Nobody actually wants to see a couple of beer-bellied middle aged men taking a leisurely jogg around the stadium. We want to see the very best. If Michelangelo had pressed a botton to have a robot carve his David, nobody would have ever cared. If Werner Herzog had AI generated a clip of a ship being pulled through the Peruvian jungle it would have been forgotten 5 minutes later. AI art will never elevate the human spirit. Nobody will ever weep for an AI generated image of a kitten in space.
